VERTECS is a 6U astronomical nano‑satellite (10 cm × 20 cm × 30 cm) that will explore the visible extragalactic background light to reveal the star formation history of the universe. The mission, called Visible Extragalactic background Radiation Exploration by CubeSat, is a collaboration among Kyushu Institute of Technology, JAXA, Tokyo City University, Kwansei Gakuin University, AstroBiology Center, Meisei University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kanazawa University, University of Fukui, SEIREN Co., Ltd., and Cosina Co., Ltd. Selected for the JAXA‑SMASH program, VERTECS aims to be developed and launched within two years.
